UTV SPORT : How Manchester City New Signing Ferran Torres Has Already Annoyed Pep Guardiola

Manchester City new boy Ferran Torres is already said to have upset manager Pep Guardiola over a recent interview he did.

The 20-year-old joined the club in a worth around £21 million on Tuesday, signing a five-year deal at the Etihad Stadium.

But while big things are expected of the Spaniard, he’s not exactly got off to the best start. Guardiola, his new boss, has been “left upset’ after Torres gave an interview with MARCA that was a little too close to the bone.

In a wide-ranging chat where he had no problem dishing the dirt, Torres stated that he asked to be Los Che captain, requested owner Peter Lim personally be involved negotiations, and that he become one of the club’s highest-earners as part of his conditions to remain at the Mestalla.

Torres revealed: “One is that [club owner] Peter Lim was involved in my renewal, to show me that I was important to the club.

“Another was to be a captain, which was my dream, because I had seen how other clubs had done that with the youth of the club, such as [Mikel] Oyarzabal or Fernando Torres, to retain them.

“And the third was to be among the highest-paid players on the squad. I know that Valencia is not in a position to pay the same as the big European clubs, but I was able to lead the project and I wanted to be treated as such, that the club made an effort to keep me.

“They just didn’t want to, period.”

Torres was also highly critical of Valencia skipper Dani Parejo, saying: “Parejo is a great player, but personally I have never had a relationship with him,” the Spaniard said.

“When I joined the first team, when I was 17 years old, many weeks passed before he said a simple ‘Good morning’ to me.”

According to ESPN, Guardiola became aware of the interview and its contents a day prior to it was published and was quite rightly not happy.

The Catalan felt the issue of his departure should not have been highlighted in the press and that Torres should have been focusing on his move to City instead.
